This great question came from another one of our subscribers via our content survey:
How to be respectful and accepted by native Hawaiians?
No matter where you go in the world, it’s always a good idea to respect the local culture and Hawaii is no different. I can understand though how this might take a bit of getting used to because while there are cultural differences between, say, Los Angeles and New York, they don’t even come close to the differences between either of them and Honolulu.
So it’s certainly possible that someone used to traveling around in the USA lands in Honolulu and acts like it’s culturally the USA. And they couldn’t be more wrong. While Hawaii is legally part of the USA, culturally, it’s a different world.
Our local girl Aina gives you her perspective on 3 simple things to do while you’re in Hawaii to respect the culture.
