I’ve lived Hawaii since the mid ‘80s when I moved here at the age of 21. I arrived site-unseen in Honolulu with zero contacts and about $5k in savings. I worked from nearly zero and today Hawaii has given me the greatest gifts in the world in all aspects: spiritually, financially, romantically (married since early ‘90s w/ 2 children), and most important, peace. My goal with this site is to share the magic of this Land of Aloha and help others who are on a similar quest.
Amen to what you said Peter.
We just got back from two weeks on the Big Island and we went all around it. “Good” and “cheap” land just does not exist and has not in
quite a long time. There are some 1 acre lots down near the SE side which are not particularly threatened by lava flows and are
under 50K but— the house you build had better be pretty soundproof and stink proof because likely you have as a close neighbor a dog kennel, a rooster farm or even a pig farm. Remember most land outside the towns are zoned for agriculture.
Thanks Dan for giving us the on-the-ground reality check!
