Hawaii COVID-19 Update for 4/17/2020

We’re now releasing more people from isolation than we are getting new cases. I’m now more troubled by the lack of a disclosed plan, tentative thought it may be, about how we #maskUpAndWork  The global growth rate has been slowing everywhere, including now Japan.  Hawa’’s growth rate running about 2% right now, and our numbers

What’s the plan for returning to work? Our % new cases has been steadily dropping for the entire month of April, deaths have remained unchanged for 5 days, and those released from isolation continue to climb. Can we even begin the conversation about the plan to re-open? I try to follow the media releases but

Growth is slowing around the world while Japan still struggles. Hawaii growth curves well below comparison countries and our infection percentages far below states with similar population. Hawaii photo of the week: Sunset with crashing waves

Nothing quite like a sunset, right? One of the most amazing things about sunsets besides their incredible beauty is how people line up on the beach to watch them.  It's like we're all mesmerized for about a half hour until the sun falls below the horizon. A long time ago I had an office with

Hawaii COVID-19 Update for 4/13/2020

Today’s +5 cases is a new record-breaker for smallest % increase.  My opinion: it’s time to have an open conversation on how we’re going to open up for business again.  Not saying we need to open right now, as Japan’s recent spike indicates there is peril in relaxing too early, but at the same time

Downward trend of new cases and growth rate is clear. WE ARE WINNING. Today had a +13 case and sadly a +1 death. Hawaii’s 3 day average of 4.1% growth rate is world beating. In a strange twist, Spain and Japan have switched places with Japan’s growth rate now as one of the highest. Enjoy

A perspective on whether or not to visit Hawaii during the COVID-19 outbreak

I've gotten more than a few emails from people asking if they should come out to Hawaii during this COVID-19 outbreak.  As luck would have it, local resident Patricia Ravarra volunteered to share her opinion on this topic and she was kind enough to write an opinion piece about it.  I think Pat has done
