Historic Ford Island in Pearl Harbor
The Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor is the one of the top visitor destinations and with good reason. In this photo you can see white rectangular memorial that’s directly above the sunken gravesite of the USS Arizona where the Japanese attacked and behind that is the USS Missouri where the Japanese surrendered. You can also see the still-standing airstrip control tower that has preserved the bullet holes from Japanese attack aircraft. If you ever get to Oahu, do not miss this!

Luv it!
My father-in-law joined the Navy immediately after the attack. Spent 4 years in the S. Pacific on an LST (he called it a Large Slow Target) Landing Ship Tank. Was torpedoed 2x and kamikazed once. The sacrifices this country made both abroad and at home will never be duplicated. They were called The Greatest Generation for a reason.
Indeed they were! Thank you Dan for sharing a great story!
Thank you Peter. Too many people today don’t realize how it changed the trajectory of the war and sadly changed the lives of innocent Japanese living in the Islands.
The Japanese internment ordered by Roosevelt is a terrible stain on American history, for sure.
Thanks for the remembrance Peter! National news did a poor job of noting the 80th anniversary.
Sadly, this incredible event is fading from American history.
