Moving to Hawaii: Our Free Six Week Class Is Open for Fall

Registration is open for the Fall cohort of Moving to Hawaii: The Complete Relocation Course. It is free, the first lesson opens Sunday, October 18, and sign ups close Thursday, October 15.

Here is what it is, in plain terms.

Six weeks, twenty-nine lessons, six live Saturdays

Each week you get a recorded lesson to watch on your own time, then a live hour on Zoom with Nancy Miller on Saturday morning where you ask whatever is actually on your mind.

The six weeks run in order: whether Hawaii is right for you, choosing the island, buying a home here, work and money and retirement, the logistics of the move itself, and settling in once you arrive. There are two bonus lessons on bringing pets, which is the part most people underestimate.

You can read every lesson, week by week before you decide whether to sign up.

The dates

Registration closes: Thursday, October 15
First lesson opens: Sunday, October 18
Live calls: Six Saturdays, October 24 through November 28, at 9:00 am Hawaii time

If you are on the mainland, your clocks change on November 1 and ours do not, so the call time shifts an hour earlier partway through. We will remind you before it happens.

Every call is recorded and posted afterward, so missing one is not a problem.

Who it is for

People who are seriously considering the move and want to make the decision properly. Families working through schools and budget. People near retirement running the numbers. Remote workers wondering whether it is realistic or whether they are romanticizing it. And anyone already living in Hawaii who is thinking about a different island.

Week one is not about how to move to Hawaii. It is about whether you should. If you finish the six weeks and decide the answer is no, that is a real result, and a far cheaper one to reach now than after you ship your car over.

Why it is free

Earlier cohorts were paid. This one is not. There is no card required and nothing to cancel. We would rather have you in the room.

Who is teaching it

Nancy Miller made this move herself. San Diego to the Big Island in about nine months, two cats across the Pacific, and two nights in an Airbnb at the other end because she did not yet own a bed.

She looked at Oahu first, and realized that if she moved there she might as well have stayed in San Diego. That is the kind of thing you only work out by going, and it is the kind of thing these six weeks are built to help you work out sooner.

Join the Fall cohort

Sign ups close Thursday, October 15, and the class starts three days later.
