Yes, it’s true it can get pretty cool, especially between December and February. However, the ‘chilly’ and grey weather is usually over after about one week, tops. So you still have some very beautiful and warm days, even longer periods of sunshine.
I’m not sure if this has been mentioned in an other post already, if so I’m sorry – I think it’s also important to mention that the Windward side tends to be more cloudy and rainy either in summer or winter. This is also the side where the weather can quickly change from beautiful sunshine to rain (often towards the later afternoon). I encountered this tendency also in the forests, which makes sense, of course, since there is always more humidity in the air.
I don’t actually know about the North Shore- whether it is as capricious as the Windward side.
