Aloha e Vern,
Please stop promoting malihini moving to Hawai’i. We have too many people in Hawai’i and it’s causing huge issues, such as raising employment competition, cost of living, and traffic congestion.
Hawai’i needs to take care of its own – namely, its native people. This isn’t to be rude and it might seem to go against the grain of the Aloha Spirit for which Hawai’i is known. But if foreigners (non-natives) really do love Hawai’i, they’ll look but not touch, visit but not stay, and appreciate but don’t own.
Please, for the sake of our native people who are being priced out of their ancestral home by too many malihini, don’t move to Hawai’i.
Mahalo me ka ha’aha’a!
Vern, thanks for the excellent articles about moving to, and living in, Hawaii! My family would love to move to Hawaii, but I am concerned about education and fun things to do for my 18 month old son. When you have time, would you please elaborate on the current state of education and fun things for young children to do in Hawaii?
I am mostly concerned about Sam and how living in Hawaii would affect him. I have the savings that you suggested. I am a lawyer specializing in banking and securities, but am looking for more of a relaxed lifestyle now. If you have any suggestions about employment opportunities, I would love to hear them.
Do you suggest visiting Hawaii, before making plans to move?
I’m a young adult ready to make a BIG change in my life.
Thoughts and suggestions?
Thinking of Hawaii,
I’ve enjoyed your book and am really impressed with your website-great info & very entertaining! Quick question for you: My partner has accepted a position at U of H Manoa, so I need to start looking for housing soon. We would prefer a 1+ bedroom rental (house, condo or apt) and are comfortable with up to a $2,500.00 monthly payment. Since we would prefer not to own a car, what areas would you suggest I concentrate my search in?
Must be a nice feeling to be moving to Hawaii! We’re still considering moving back, but it will be another almost two years for us. If it were us, and my wife had a job at UHM, I’d just live in Waikiki. Probably same building I lived in before – 400 Hobron Lane. Google map that. There is also the Ilikai building, on the water in a great spot. You can walk to everywhere from these places. Not sure your wife will want to walk all the way to UHM but maybe carpool or bus would be best.
What will you do there in Hawaii?
